Flute Pedagogy in the Mountains

 

                          For the past few summers, flautists have gathered in Crested

                             Butte, Colorado, USA to attend workshops conducted by

                             Mary Karen Clardy, Professor of Flute at University of

                             North Texas.  This year's group was an eclectic mix of

                             professional musicians, teachers and dedicated amateurs.  They

                             came from all corners of America to meet, listen to new ideas

                             and share the love of flute playing.....

 

                         A portion of each afternoon was spent reading ensemble music

                              for various combinations of flute and piccolo.  In addition,

                              everyone had the opportunity to play both alto and bass flute. 

                              Finally, at the end of the week, the class presented a programme

                              comprised of the pieces that we had worked on......

                              Playing beautiful music in such a beautiful setting is a

                              spiritual experience!
